Well it turns out I can't buy Mead in Alabama :idunno: . It has to high of an alcholic content to be sold as wine. Looks like it's a trip to Pensacola,Fla. if I want some, 90 miles away, bummer!. Use to buy it Atlanta when I lived up there for the winter. If anybody knows of a closer place thats in Fla. let us folk down here know where it is.

Mead actually is your oldest alcoholic drink (wine). As populations expanded and finding honey to keep up with demand became problematic, people started to substitute grapes in place of honey. The rest is history as they say...

Been making my own Meads and Cyser's for years now. Easy once you get the right equipment, the hard part is letting it age over a year, the more the better. If you decide this is something you might like to try, this is an excellent book with lots of great info and recipes.

That's wierd, and I wonder if the people at the local ABC store are not informed or simply don't want to get you the wine. Prior to 2009 the limit on alcohol in wine in AL was 14.9% but as of August 1, 2009 the limit was raised to 16%... and the average OTC mead is less Alcohol by Volume than grape wines....

Now, Chaucer's Mead is 11% ABV, Sky River Mead is 10.5% ABV, Sky River Rasberry Honey Wine is 12% ABV, and Oliver's Camelot Mead is 11% ABV, while when you look at common table wines from grapes...Yelowtail Shiraz is 14% ABV and Gallo Cabernet Sauvignon is 13% ABV, and Franzia boxed red wine is 13.5% ABV, and they are very common wines.

You might want to revisit the local ABC store and fill them in..., :shocked2: If they have boxed wine or common table wines for sale the majority of mead is under those wines in potency.
