Mel Gibson just lost a bid to get his gun rights back; he lost them in 2011 due to a "domestic" incident. Since the Gov't. doesn't consider flintlocks as "firearms" he could just stick to them, as he's pretty good with a muzzleloader! (See"' The Patriot' movie!") According to a New York Times front page article in the 3/12/25 issue, the woman who was in charge of the dep't. that considers such requests was FIRED shortly after declining to re-issue Mel's gun rights. Remember the incident where he was stopped traffic-wise and made unfortunate comments to an officer. High profile, wealthy people need to be well behaved at all times; everyone is "gunning" for them, no pun intended! Maybe Donald can help out! ;)

I dont know if a DV marks you for life or after a certain amount of time you can petition the court to have your rights restored.

Supplemental after a search.
Misdemeanor DV on Conviction is a ban for Life. Conviction of Aggravated Assault is a ban for Life.
Acquittal or dropping of charges can get you an expungement of Record of Incident.

If you had a felony is 1967, you got all your rights back, as it should be.
As of 1968, stripped forever. Pure communism.
Shall not be infringed means, when you get out of jail, you get your rights back.
There are two states that still do this.
The other 48 suck molasses in November.

Before 2022 it was illegal for someone convicted to DV to own a firearm.

In 2022 Clarence Thomas ruled that there were no DV laws in 1776, so modern DV laws could not be used to deny someone the right to bear arms.

Then in 2024 the entire Supreme Court ruled 8-1 against Thomas, and again restored the DV firearm laws.

Montana used to be one but changed it when it started going California.
