I am interested in how to preserve the bright metal finishe on a polished lock, and remain usable without corosion? :thanks:

Elbow Grease. You need to clean and polish and lube after every use to keep as new. Use super hot water, drop of dish soap, and clean with stiff brush. Rinse with boiling water, or hot, hot tap water. Dry off (I use a hair dryer). Polish yer lock. I use semichrome polish. Finally use a good gun lube, and put back on the gun. :results: :m2c: Bill

Thank you Bill! I was looking at a site and they were talking about Nitrateing the metal and it was guaranteed not to rust. I'm not sure what this is, but it did arrouse my curiosity!

ever consider electroless nickel? I have had it done to some aluminum and steel parts that have been exposed to mild salt solutions, soap and water, hand oils. I do a simple water/detergent wash and blow dry. They always coem out looking great!

R.E.M., The other things to keep in mind is what kind of storage, and environment you have between uses. Do you use a safe, and does it have a dehumifier, like a goldenrod. What is your usage, weekly, once a month, or one week during deer season. All these things need to be factored into what kind and how much lube you need to use. Above all don't try and use wd-40, as a preservative, it's for water displacement and penetration, you can use it as part of a cleaning process, never for storage. It will evaporate in a short time leaving you without protection, and going around without protection will cost ya, I know thats why I have a third child. Bill
