I noticed that there are a few replacement caps that fit Goex powder cans which dispense powder, etc. I thought these were cool but when I bought my first can of Goex, it came in a plastic bottle with a different sized cap.

Can you get those old-school metal cans anywhere else?

I have about 20 of the old metal cans and they are not going anywhere.

They are about the same size as the one quart solvent cans at the paint store, although more and more items are coming in plastic now. I don't remember where, but I recently saw the brand new unpainted empty cans for sale somewhere, from a container supplier. Sort of like the unpainted empty paint cans available at some hardware stores.

Yesterday afternoon I made a spout lid for a Schuetzen plactic powder can. I took the lid off an empty can. Then I took an empty .308 shell, I used a hacksaw to cut off the base of the shell. Then I used a few different hand tools to slightly expand the cut off end of the case. If I was a plumber I could expand the end of the case much easier. Then I used a large leather hole punch to cut the hole on the plastic lid. You then push the small end of the shell through the hole from the inside of the lid. Push it through until the raised edge stops. Then I mixed up some plastic bonder epoxy. Using a tooth pick I made a cap inside the lid using the epoxy. I let the project cure out in the sun all day. And this worked. The .308 has a large hole a 25 ought six would be a better shell to use but I did not have one of those. I had less than 20 minutes on the project. Were I a plumber with pipe expansion dies it would have been 10 minutes.
I assume this would also work on the plastic Goex cans.

i made one for the schutzen cap last week using .357 mag case - drilled the primer hole large - I used a rimmed case so the rim holds the case on the inside of the cap & used a little epoxy on the outside - if I had cut the hole a little better wouldnt need the epoxy as friction alone would work but didnt want it falling out & getting lost in the range box. the epoxy probably wont stick to the plastic used but it does stick well to brass so if it doesnt stick to the plastic still have the rim on the bottom & a ridge of epoxy on the top of the lid. I reload modern ammo so have decapped cases - not sure I would try to drill through a case with a spent primer

Now I need to empty a can of goex so I can make one for that size

There are available from most B/P suppliers a small brass funnel that screws into most powder flasks , pour from the can into the flask simple hey ,an adapter can be made to fit onto the funnel so that it can fit into the mouth of a powder horn for filling purposes or another funnel can be used that is made just to fit horns , simple as to use as it does not matter what size can cap or screw on lid you have or are forced against your will to purchase next time :rotf:
