A brother-in-law gave me a knife with the word "Mexico" engraved on one side of the blade and some sort of design on the other side. I think it was more of a letter opener made for the tourist trade out of a mild steel. It's not a big knife and needs a scabbard but it is sharp. My question is it worth keeping as a tourista memento or take a file to the blade and get rid of the wording and design.and make a real knife out of it?

Since you asked, I would get rid of it.

Certainly not use it as a knife.

If it has emotionally value to you, do what you want with it and dont worry about what anyone thinks.

So far it's been a paper weight and dust collector, but it does have a little sentimental value, it was my brother-in-law's and he has since passed away.
