Not sure if this is the place for it but let's see.

I will be coming up to the old homestead, Pontiac, Mi. next weekend and was wondering if there were any places to shoot. I was planning on bringing my .54 Tulle up but did not want to go to the Bald Mtn. Gun range. Went there last year and I was sorely disappointed. Not the same range I remember when I used to work there as a part time ranger. Any club shoots on Sunday, 7/12 or any day during the week? Also, are there any good muzzleloading shops up there as well? I remember the Old Black Powder Shop up near Saginaw but it closed the year I went to visit. Too bad because it was really a nice place. Anyway, thanks any help on this.

I get up around Oakland Co. some every now and then. Yeah, I had heard the same about Bald Mountain, don't know of any other places to shoot BP in the area. That area has gotten so built up over the years. As for gun shops, Jerry's Gun Shop in Rochester (downtown), has carried black powder stuff in the past. If nothing else they would know where to shoot if anyplace still exists, Jerry's has been there for 30 yers or more now. Also, near Pontiac, Great Lakes Crossing (I-75 & Joslyn) has a Bass Pro Shop store - they will have some of the standard fare stuff there. Enjoy the trip!

Lancer, there is a rendezvous near St. Johns this weekend. Check out the posting from Pieman on the fishcreek gathering.

Thanks guys,

I'll definitely try and check out he place in White Lake. Also, I forgot about Jerry's gun shop. Used to live just down the street from Great Lakes crossing and spent many an afternoon in there with the kids. You're right about it being so overgrown now. It's been 5 years since I've been gone but I can still smell the pine and lakes around Mackinac.

Thanks again guys,

Lancer

Man, you must have a great nose to smell all the way up to Mackinac!!!
BTW Lancer, we're having a re-enactment in Midland on the 16th and 17th of July, at the Tridge. Grants' Co'y 42d Royal Highland Regiment

There's also Island Lake Recreation area DNR range. I don't know what's in that area for shops anymore, but the closest one to me is Classic Arms up in Lansing (an hour north of us)

Best of luck!

Sorry I'm a bit late on this, but I just got back from vacation myself...........

There is a DNR operated outdoor range on the Ortonville State Game area that has 25, 50, and 100 yard stations, as well as an informal trap/skeet area. Bring your own everything....there are no concessions. :(

As far a BP shops go, there is one west of Port Huron in Kenockee called the Kenockee Tradin' Post. Nice little store run by good people. I'll see if I can dig up the number later.

Thanks Jon, for posting the info....I've been a bit busy the last couple of days. :(

I not sure of the direction that you will be traveling, so south just a bit:

There should be a black powder match at the Toledo Muzzle Loaders on Sunday, July 17th. This month's match starts at 11 am and is normally just bulls-eye targets at 25, 50 & 100 yards with some kind of special match and a 20 bird trap match. Contact Cleland's Outdoor World (419-865-4713) - they're running the match or Diane Jendruch at [email protected] Check out the TML page at http://members.toast.net/tml/

The Smoke & Fire Company have a shop (with normal business hours) in Waterville, Ohio @ 27 N. River Rd.; 43566 - just a touch south of the TML range. http://www.smoke-fire.com/

And Fort Meigs is in Perrysburg just a bit east of Waterville. They have just this year finished a large re-furbishing project that includes a visitor center-exhibit hall-gift shop. They had a large program for the Fourth, so not really sure what may be happening this week-end. http://www.fortmeigs.org/

And while it is way, way off topic . . . The Cabela's store in Dundee on Rt. 23 is a playground for the person that like to hunt, fish, camp or just be in the woods.

Hope this gives ya some ideas.

Guys,

I can't thank you enough for all of the great ideas. I have been writing down numbers and everything and hope to get to at least one or two of the places mentioned. I am trying to convince the wife to let me have a side trip to Lodi on the way up but we'll have to see. :hmm:

Thanks again and I'll let you know how things go.
Lancer :thanks:

Hi Lancer, sorry for the late post but I've been trying to confirm this. There is a trade gun shoot on Saturday the 16th and a rifle shoot on Sunday the 17th at Detroit Sportsmen's Congress in Utica. I believe it will be a woods-walk type shoot. If you need directions they are on the web site at http://www.d-s-c.org/ We have a great bunch of shooters and guests are always welcome.

Jon
