What's wrong with this?
I can't build a muzzleloader starting from scratch with some steel and wood, but these guys can. I doubt that many of the better known builders look much different when they're building a gun.

From what I've heard from the reenactors I ask about them, many Indian guns are functional and have locks that spark well, especially those from Loyalist Arms. Anyone who can build a functioning flintlock lock from raw materials has some real skill.

The biggest concern I have with them, after research and pissing people on several forums off asking about them, is that you don't know that the barrels are made to be barrels. They might be, but no one seems to be real good and determined to make it clear to me that they're using real barrels. Until I know I can sight down the barrel without worrying about my gun turning into a pipe-bomb, I'll pass.

What kind of a barrelled reciever is on the bench behind the fellow? I know that we limit our discussions to firearms through the Civil War period, but that one looks out of place. :hmm:

It does look like a military action. I think I can make out a military style sight mounted on the barrel. The round reciever does look like a Mauser.

And as for ethnicity, who cares?
Where you live or the language you speak doesn't have much to do with your ability to produce a quality gun. I suspect that there are craftsmen in many countries would could rival our best known builders.

My plan to visit MVTC has been foiled :cursing: . Called them today and spoke to Wendy. She told me the guns sell so fast they can't keep them in stock. They get shipments about once a month and by the time the shipment comes in the guns are all spoken for. She told me if I go down I MAY be able to see what i'm looking for before they get shipped to their owners. If I like what I see I can place a 50% deposit on one in the next shipment and wait a month or so to get my new gun. think I'm back to other options.

I think anyone who's considering buying just one just due to price should shop used. I've seen some decent used guns on online classifieds built from Chambers and TVM kits, but none that have been quite what I want yet.
Still, some I've seen for $700-$800. A more historically accurate US made gun of good quality parts by someone who knew what he was doing, and the price may be negotiable. Just a thought if all you need is a good smoothbore.

cool check into it. thats abought all I can realy do on one. trying to get the boss/wife to go alittle more on the price is tuff stuff man!
