A local shop as a very nice hawken built by a gent named Mike Adcock. Has anyone ever heard of him or have any of his work? I don’t have photos but it’s a custom build and the rifle is signed. It’s a 58 cal and has an 1 1/8 barrel if I remember right. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

From here Dec 2006:

Hawken .62cal. Maple stock but wood is not that dense. Barrel is 34'' and over 1 1/8 in diameter and a bit heavy. As the picture shows there is and inlay the cheek piece. I'm not the original owner. Rifle was built by Mike Adcock as is marked on barrel along with bear rifle. $700.00

I don't know, but I'd buy it THEN worry about the details, IF it's a nice gun! Good luck!

Mike Adcock from Arkansas built me a .62 caliber left hand percussion Hawken in 1994. It was designed after one he had photographed and measured at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, WY. An interesting feature on this BBHC rifle that I gather was extremely uncommon on original Hawken rifles was a pistol grip. My rifle if memory serves me right has a 38” octagon barrel that tapers from 1 1/8” to 1 1/16”. It sports a walnut XX grade stock with checkering on the pistol grip and some metal engraving as well. I was more interested at the time in an accurate rifle for elk hunting than historical accuracy. It proved to be extremely accurate and consistent shooting a .610 patched round ball over 135gr of 2F Goex. It accounted for both a 6X6 bull elk and a cow elk over the years.

Mike lives just a few miles away from me, I can get a hold of him and ask him any questions you might have. I spoke with his brother the other day, trying to get us all together to shoot, and he said that Mike hasn't been building anything lately because his eyesight is getting a little worse.

That is great to hear. If you see Mike please tell him Bill Dunn in the Pacific NW still treasures the rifle he built me along with the awesome elk hide possibles bag and custom knife that master blade smith Bill ?? (Cannot remember last name) made to go with Mike’s wonderful Hawken.
