I just picked up my new Virginia 45 caliber flintlock from Mike Brooks yesterday. Haven't shot it yet but am anxious to put it through its paces. Jim Chambers large siler lock, Davis triggers, and a 42" B weight swamped barrel. Mike was GREAT to work with and I am very pleased with this rifle. Mike is pictured here with my rifle. Greg. :)

It's a stunning looking gun. Made by one of the best contemporary builders in the country. Mike is a very knowledgeable gent who has spent decades pursuing his craft. His understanding of flintlock architecture is second to none.

Thanks Wattle, I'm confident that your wait will be well worth it! Are you waiting on a fowler from Mr. Brooks? Greg. :)

I should take some more (better) pics to show off Mikes work. You are correct Bagman, Mike is a wealth of knowledge concerning muzzle loaders!! Greg :)

Well, I just got around to firing off this gun and man am I pleased with it! Holds like a dream and accuracy is what I would expect out of the Green Mountain barrel. I couldn't ask for anymore than I got with this Virginia! The deer in our river bottom are going to be in trouble this fall !! Greg. :)

Today I was shooting 60 grains 3f BP with a .440 rb, .18 spit patch. That is my go to load and works pretty well on this one also. I will keep playing with it to try and wring out some more accuracy out of it. Greg. :)

Seems that Mike has a real liking to build fowlers that's for sure. He does good work. Has his own knack for making a new gun look old and original. I don't own a fowler but if'n I get a notion to I won't hesitate to contact him to build me one. Greg. :)

Thanks hanshi, I'm rather fond of it as you may tell by my post. :). I have never taken a critter yet with a flintlock although my cap guns are all well broken in that way. Looking forward to bagging my buck this year with it along with maybe a doe as well. Greg. :)

Mike seems to be known for his fowler guns. He says he is about dead even tho making rifles vs fowlers. Pretty nice guy to boot! Greg. :)
