just wondering if anyone has ever had agun built by this guy?
i went to the kalamazoo show this weekend fully intending to buy the armstrong kit from pecatonica and just out of curiosity started asking custom builders what it would cost well anywhere from 3500 to 5000 seemed to be the range so i stopped by mike told him every thing i wanted rice barrel siler lock davis triggers super nice curly maple stock 11 sterling silver inlays all engraved usual armstrong carving and patchbox. he comes up with a price of 1800 i couldnt believe it but he shows me all his compareable guns and that is what he charges for them. now he buys all his patchboxes and inlays instead of making them like the other guys do and maybe his carving and engraving isnt as perfect as the other guys but its still high quality as far as i am concerned. i plan on using this gun a lot for hunting so i dont need a museum piece now im not knocking the other guys because they really do fine work but i think mike gives the most bang for the buck. i really wanted to build a gun but i know it would take a long time to build and he hopes to have it done in 4 to 5 months from now so i talked to my wife and she said yes so i now have a new rifle on the way!
