I kinda like the Baker Rifle, for alot of reasons. ie' Shorter barrel, time frame, able to fit it into the Fur Trade era. The problem is I really don't want to spend $2500 to $4500 on a rifle. I see that MilitaryHeritage out of Canada has them. They sell 'em non firing (import stuff) and you can get a rifled barrel from a US gunsmith they have, they send it to him. All under $1000. My question is, is this company reliable and most of the parts are probably made in India or some other less desirable place. I don't know. I bought a dragoon pistol from another Canadian company and it fires reliably but the workmanship is less than what I am used to. ANy thoughts about this ?????

Your "workmanship" comment will still apply to these rifles. Maybe the gunsmith can "pretty" it up a bit but the stocks are still teak and the work is done in India. You gets what you pay for. These guns are popular with the Napoleonic War re-enactors in England since they're about all they can legally own. The smoothbores don't matter when you're popping off blanks.
