Does anyone on the forum use mink oil as a patch lube?

I have some Bee Natural Leathercare Mink Oil, and it feels like it would make a good patch lube.
there is no ingredient listing on the bottle. I'm thinking it might have some other products in it that might be harmful to the barrel.Any input on this? :hmm:

If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember
anything.

I remember asking the same question a few years ago. The answer is that mink oil would work, but the stuff they sell for boots and leather is not pure mink oil. It has stuff you don't want to put down your barrel.
If you want to mix your own look around this site for the recipes for Stumpy's moose snot, moose milk, and other fine moose products.

The only thing I liked better than mink oil as a patch lube is bear grease. I've been using it for almost 30 years. Never had a problem with it. In fact, the guy who built my rifle recommended mink oil.

Ive been playing around with TOTW mink oil patch lube.out of my .58 Green Mountain. However so far in my shooting the barrel seems to like a thinner lube like Lehigh valley or plain spit a little better. And it also seems to prefer NOT wiping between shots with thinner patch lubes. The accuracy is only slightly better though. The margin seems small enough for me to experiment some more and make sure its not my shooting. If things stay consistent I'll prrobably use it for my cold weather lube.

Doulos,

What kind of barrel do you have? Mine is a very deep grooved Rice with rounded grooves.

RAY,I have the same barrel in a 42in. 54cal. and I use totw mink oil and mine shoots great groups

nw hunter:

Mink Oil from TOTW is good stuff. The "use on shoes" stuff has petrolium in it or is petrolium based - will foul your barrel if used as a patch lube.
