gents can u fire minnieball from smoothbores.would like to try some "experts"on t,internet say yes others say No.what say you more experienced friends .i have a good friend willing to make the mould but are there pro,s/cons .safety issues etc cheers in advance

Technically yeah. I always figured accuracy would be about the same as Forster slugs out of modern shotguns, on the order of 6"-8" at 50 yards. With sights. On a good day. So I never tried it. Guys who have done so tell me I'm overly-optimistic on my accuracy expectations. Dunno without trying it myself.

thanks for the reply, think il get the mould made anyhow and see what happens.only one person mentioned slight improvement in accuracy ,another said only upto 25 yds .thats why i asked if anyone had tried it on here as across the internet its a bit vague

You will get some 'arrow stability' due to the hollow base. The longer the better. Any thing that would induce a wobble and off it would tumble. Will you get your shots with in 25-35 yards? It would be a devaastating wad of lead.
Why would you do it? Well I have made wads from a lot of different natural fibers....including dog hair(that smells a might stong). Smoothies are pretty forgiving and atworst you would get crapy groups...and have fun playing.

thanks for that m8,il have a chinwag with the machinist and explain how the hollow gives stability.got the blanks already .im going for the 3 ring minnie in .68 cal.

the main reason for doing it is i suppose for the hell of it.we cant hunt deer n the like as you can so il just see what happens to various targets .some of the list will include swedes ,turnips and maybe the odd grapefruit.vicious them grapefruits need controlling :haha:

When something is heavy on one side it becomes more stBle in flight. The lighter tail gives it wind flow that helps keep it strieght. The principal that keeps a spear, arrow or dart on track. Or putting a paper clip on a paper airplane. Of course spinning helps. Fleching on arrows or riffling for a Minnie.
