I got a .50 caliber Thompson Center Hawken off gunbroker last week. UPS web site says it is on the truck for delivery today. It's still not here yet!!!! :cursing: Dang I hate the waiting!

Had 3 M1 carbines "on the truck" for 10 days. ATF & local cops finaly investigated & found driver was stealing guns.

Got my rifles 2 months later.

UPS had been geting coplaints for months & they didn't do squat until I called feds.

Yeah, but I never cared for the "stand by the stand by, we definately have a maybe" routine then either! LOL

In our neck of the woods Big Brown always gets there the day after their tracker says.
But, that's OK 'cause they're consistent! :haha:

Lately they deliver to our rual area as late as 8 at night. They never used to be past 6:30 I wonder if they cut drivers? Geo. T.

Well around 1830, it finally got here! I guess this is the first time I ever seen them get here that late in the day. I broke it down and cleaned it up (it was pretty clean in the first place) and it looks to be in excellent shape. Not bad for $350 I guess. My bore light went MIA and the replacement I got came with dead batteries (got to return that tomorrow...weather depending) but from what I could see, it looked fairly clean but there might be a little lead buildup near the muzzle. I got her loaded up right now with 100 grains of FF and a PRB so as soon as the sun is up and before the Wyoming wind kicks up, I want to take her out to zero it and she how she goups. All-in-all though, I think I am going to be pretty happy with this one.

I've noticed that shipments east to west seem to arrive as scheduled (I'm west), but items I ship east (most everywhere else) seem to arrive 1 - 3 days later than the tracking schedule. Also, ours have arrived as late as 8:00pm since after the holidays. I inquired about that with the driver. He said, "optional overtime".

They chafe my butt too. I always get deliveries late afternoon to early evening. I don't have any problems with FedEx.

A couple years back had ordered a .54 flint rifle kit and according to the tracker it was delivered and signed for on a day that I was home. I called UPS and was told that it was signed for on X day by the resident. I informed them that was not correct as I was home and saw no UPS truck and they stated " It was delivered and there is nothing more we can do about it" so I contacted a couple friends in law enforcement and come to find out the driver (new guy) delivered the rifle the day before and left it on a chair on the front porch so he said and he attempted to forge my name. Come to find out that this guy has been doing this for a while in other places and he'd move when it started to get hot.
It took several weeks to get my money from them and after that I requested that the rifle get shipped by FEDEX and it was delivered the day set on the tracker and I was at work and they left a notice that they tried to deliver and to call and set up a delivery time or go in and sign for it at the shipping center.

A good friend of mine is a driver and, yes, they have cut drivers. He gets off late pretty much most nights.
The good news is, my place is on his route so he brings me cool stuff sometimes...

Well, I managed to test fire it a little this morning between the snow fluries but nothing on paper yet. It does however fire without any problems and managed to hit what I was aiming at be it the old empty barrel or a few wood blocks around the yard. Now, the more I clean it, the more I am thinking that the spot in the barrel isn't pitting at all. Lacking a working bore light, I folded up a patch and stuffed that down the barrel and using a flashlight, the bore actually looks pretty good from what I can see so far. Now this one doesn't have the "Black powder or Pyrodex only" warning billboard on the barrel, does that mean I can use a 100 grain charge of Bullseye in this thing? I mean, Bullseye is kind of black looking powder, right? KIDDING, JUST KIDDING!!!! But as for the pics. Here's a few I took this morning with ye ole Iphone.

Yeah, it would look better hanging over the fireplace rather than sitting on top of the burner box but I'm not sure the landlord would be cool with drilling into the fireplace bricks. :hmm:

Next to my old mystery .45 Hawken. Seriously, the only marking is ".45" on the barrel in front of the drum.

Thats a deer creek northwest rifle. The trigger guard is what gives it away. Deer Creek used a lot of the left over CVA mountain rifle stuff and came up with their own name for the gun. That will be a Douglas barrel on it.

I had one in 45 and that sucker was a tack driver with round balls or conicals.

Thanks for the information on my old .45 Hawken!!! I bought it used years ago when I first started in front stuffers froma friend of mine. I never really knew what it was but like you said, it was pretty accurate. In ND, .45 is the minimum for deer muzzle loader TC Hawken in .50 to be a good compromise of thumping power on the larger deer we have back home and easier handling than the musket. I still use my .45 for targets and plinking though. Fun gun and economical to shoot.

Nice looking rifles. You might want to try dropping a nice shiney ball bearing down the barrel and then use a flashlight. It reflects the light quite nicely.

Thanks for the tip but in doing a search earlier, someone here came up with the idea of using the base of a cartridge in a similar manner. Kinda short on the steel ball bearings here but I got scads of .45 ACP ammo. Drop the round down nose first and use a flashlight to check the bore. Looks pretty good so now I just got to get her zeroed and see how she groups. :)
