Mississippi rifle cartridges w/ball

I've got an underhammer .50 cal. chunk gun with a green mountain 1:66" patched round ball barrel... Unfortunately it shoots a good foot and a half high, even with the aperture sight all the way down! At some point I need to switch out the sights, but I'm not sure if anyone makes one tall enough?!

Neat cartridges! I'll have to give those a try.
When I make paper cartridges for my .58, I prefer to make the stringless Model 1863, with the paper folded back after choking it with a string.

I wrote this several years ago, it is how I make them.

That is a great tutorial and good idea on the tapered design.

Rite away I see the need to give these a try in my 20 smoothie.

Wonder if after these are rolled and complete, a person would "dip" these on the ball end up to 1/4 to 1/2 inch past the ball end in a good melted lube of say 8 parts bee wax to 2 parts lard. This would give plenty of lube for the trip down the fouled bore. Also should keep the fouled bore soft for the next shot.

These are really just what I have done in a smaller form for my 36 and 44 cal Colt style revolvers. They work very well indeed. I have shot 50 36 cal cart's in a row and only stopped as I ran outta the lil buggers.

Def going to try these in the 20 as well as my Enfield 577.

Thanks for this great tutorial. Any chance that there would be a historical connection to these or just a great twist on the old HC paper cart's?
