I will have my first flintlock next month. I have several lbs of Goex 2f. A friend gave me some 3f.
Would mixing Goex 2f and 3f together to stretch the 3f out until I can get more cause any issues? Anybody done this or is it even worthwhile?

Don't bother, you'll just regret at some future time, causes confusion, etc.

In terms of use no problem. In terms of carry it won’t stay mixed. In a horn or flask as you walk the powder will jiggle and the 2 will tend to go to the down side and tge three on top.
And you pour one load might end up 70% 3 and your next 70%2
Let’s say you have a .50 that you shoot 70 grains 3f. If you change over to 2 you need increase your charge to 80 or 85 grains to get same velocity, and may not only print a little lower but have a little bigger group.
Bambi won’t be able to tell. Most novelty targets or woods walk stuff won’t care. If your goal is clover leaf then you will notice.

You say you have a flintlock so just load it with 2f and use 3f for the flash pan. As for the main charge just use either as you please, both will work. I wouldn`t go mixing them.

I have several flintlocks that I use 2F in and several I use 3F in. From a .32 Kentucky to a .75 Bess. I prime with what I use in the barrel. If 2f goes in the barrel it goes in the pan also. Works just fine.

Rock Home.........This stash of fine powder is a signal to you from the M/L gods. They are telling you to go get a .32 , or .36 , and try some light squirrel loads in them , using the stash of FFFFG. Can't imagine it would hurt. Has anyone else done this w/ FFFFG ??

If you mix the powders, you will learn of the phenomena known as the Macadamia Nut Effect. When products are mixed, such as nuts, the large nuts separate and come to the top of the mixture as container is used. This will happen when powders are mixed, such as 2Fg and 3Fg. The different sizes will separate, and the larger grain will rise to the top of the container. Of course, you can shake the horn vigorously to mix them, but you will ultimately be better off in terms of having a consistent blend of powder by keeping the sizes separate.

It was interesting, most said mixing 2 and 3f that they would stay separate. A while back our BP club ordered “Jacks” 3f powder with the Goex order because it was a bit cheaper. Looking closely at Jacks we found there was a bit of 2f mixed in with our purchased 3f. Apparently Jacks is not sifted as well as Goex. But still shot decently.
Doc,

in every can of ffg there are fffg kernels hiding. they just naturally settle to the bottom of the can.
if you get better performance from fffg in your particular rifle, you can convert ffg to fffg by crushing the ffg with the wife's rolling pin. the only danger involved is you must just be sneaky or you may have divots in your skull.
