None of these guys can keep regular ordinary everyday barrels in stock.

It's like steel has evaporated from the earth or something.

Are these same Out of Stock, Out of Stock, Out of Stock, barrel companies prepared to produce custom one-off barrels?

Same thing i have wanted to know for past 8 months. I have had 1 that has never responded although i had the funds to pay. Had one tell me they could not take an order n fill it in less than a year. Only 2 calibers i want they want to do a rb twist . I have enough rifles that shoot a rb, most any n all are made that way

Getting a custom barrel made is a long-term commitment. By the time you get it, you may not want it anymore.

Be flexible. Buy what’s available.

Part of the problem is this: today’s customers want barrel makers to carry 8 calibers, in different lengths, straight, swamped, and octagon to round. In other words about 30-40 variations “should be in stock” to satisfy today’s customers. And they want them at 2005 prices. And the old men making them can barely make money enough to live, and never hoped to spend their time online, on emails, and on the phone with customers who can’t understand why they can’t get what they want, now, or by a certain date.

15 years ago it often took me 6-18 months to get a custom barrel. So I’d buy barrels at shows. Might I use this one some day? Ok I gotta buy it if I can.

I'm going to plant a curly maple tree seed.

In the hopes that barrels will become available when the tree is big enough to make a stock out of.

Knocking out a rifle from a blank shouldn't be too hard when I'm 105.

You are looking for a barrel with an uncommon twist rate, one that will not be stocked by anyone. If you are set on thar caliber and twist you will have to order one and wait.

You are correct , i will have to just hide behind a big tree n cry then dry my eyes n order the .40 cal 13/16" x 36" with a 1:48 twist rate

Call Log Cabin Shop ,and see what they have. Ed Rayle........Gassaway , W.Va.... Stonewall Creek Outfitters , might have something...

You have to plan out your building a year or two in advance. The last custom barrel that I ordered took 10 months to get. Not a problem. It will be over a year until I get around to using it. If you want something specific you have to expect a long wait. Best off to build something from parts that are available while you are waiting.

Buy one of Kibler’s factory second barrels, cut excess off from the tang end, have it rethreaded, and use it. His 40 is 1:48 twist .

the fastest custom barrel I got was 3 months and I have some others that I have been waiting a year for. for your fast twist I would recommend either FCI or The Gun Works. be patient.
