The range I go to has two benches and maximum 150 yard banks. The benches are not very far apart. I am right handed so if I get there and no one is there I always set up on the right bench so if anyone shows up they get the left bench and won't get sprayed when I shoot my flint rifles. If someone is using the right bench I ask if they would be interested in switching benches; if they don't I wait until they are done.

I always announce I am shooting black powder and the dangers of smoking around it.

I always announce "Fire in the hole" before shooting any gun.

I always ask for them communication about going down range; all people must be behind the benches before firing resumes.

I make sure I clean up any mess I made or that was left from previous shooters. I remove any targets and sweep bench/floor and gather up as many spent patches as I can.

Anyone who shows interest in my flint rifles is asked if they would like to try it or have any questions.

So much time is wasted checking to make sure guns are unloaded and "safe". I miss the days when a range was called cold, one immediately put down their weapon and stepped away from the shooting lane until it was called hot again. Loaded, unloaded, don't matter, don't touch it, don't go near it until cleared to do so. Jaspers breaking that rule were sent packing.

Wish that worked everywhere. Doesn't. :(
There is a very nice range not far from me in the National Forest built by the Forest Service. But, it is no regulated. You just go and shoot. I have stopped using it because it is often being used by idiots who do not cease fire when requested and will shoot while people are down range changing targets. And, they go down range when others are shooting without announcing what they are doing. :youcrazy: Unfortunate since it is a very nice shooting facility otherwise.
