Antique Mle 1840 French smoothbore musket. .71 cal. (18mm) Around a 36” barrel. I havent came across any others of these. Ive seen 1840 rifles, but they had some differences especially longer barrels.

Decent condition. It seems to have come from the factory with the smooth bore. Stamped CD18 on top, which is what it measures in mm. It is stamped C19 underneath which may be its max if rebored? Its stock has a plugged grease hole. I am not sure, but it may have had its forend shortened? I know very little about these pieces, so ask questions, but be aware I may not know the answer. Tac Foley or Rudyard could likely tell everything about it by these pictures. 61D20CEB-A221-43C6-970E-CD0A4B834356.jpeg854E0225-231B-462E-ADC8-0870EAD1F16F.jpegE31779E9-8DF2-4A5A-8DB9-1343F95D12CA.jpeg61D20CEB-A221-43C6-970E-CD0A4B834356.jpegA93DC38C-E486-433D-81DC-2E0A1FCB6ED4.jpeg9437F87D-910B-48F0-BEEF-1AE6FC601E3C.jpegFD868112-D831-465E-83F9-C5FE9A2C2D23.jpegA46FEEBE-FBDD-4AB3-BF4B-C4DA730F2880.jpegE956075F-3131-48E1-B8E9-66D1B6B46AAB.jpegEEFDFAE1-AB11-4E2B-9E52-4DBD7E527696.jpeg

I have not shot this, but see no issues preventing that. The lock functions fine, and the barrel seems sound. Whoever buys this should get it inspected to be sure.

Im putting lots of photos on especially of the barrel markings. Probably a couple posts required.

$300 + shipping obo.

You may be right, but if so, Id have expected it to have a smaller bore size stamped on it somewhere. Im aware that some started life as .69 cal smoothbores then were rifled to a .71 cal. But thats as far as I know which isnt a lot.
