I am tempted to try this stuff .. sounds like good stuff! Am I correct in estimating the makeit cost at about $8-12 per 11oz?

You're correct.

Castor Oil $8.00 +/-
Beeswax $0.75
Murphy's $0.25

About $9.00 for 11 oz. Should last you about 1,000 shots for .50 or .54 size patches; maybe twice that. I carry a 1 oz. tin and go well over 100 shots with that before topping it off.
