Must be the heat, or the wrong time of the month, everyone seems a little sensitive this week. Everyone needs to take a chillpill and get back to our usual silliness, and info. Segway to a testimonial about Stumpy's snot, er Moosesnot. Three weeks back I was trying to hit the broadside of a barn (my groups are tightening up some) When I got called away to an emergency, and did'nt clean my Tulle. Last ten shots were ticking patched .590 roundball in front of 80 gr. of FFG. patches were lubed with Snot. After 10 days no rust, and fifth patch with moosemilk came out clean. The moose snot saved a rusty mess. Thanks Stumpy. By the way the answer is "to show the possum it could be done!" Bill

Bill, heat, what heat? Heck, it's only been in the 90's for over a week, and i am very, very tired of it. But the Moose snot sounds like it saved you a possible mess.

The art of "slipping it between the lines" is one I treasure. Sometimes, I clown when I'm serious, and others I'm serious when I clown. :winking: Assume I'm mostly harmless and lets move on.

Glad you found the Moose Snot to have protected your bore. I hesitate to make such claims, but I find it does VERY well when combined with B.C. Stealth penetrating oil wiped in a clean and alcohol swabbed bore and then wiped again with the Moose Snot. Probably the Stealth alone would work. I have one barrel I dobbed with Moose Snot last November and haven't touched since. I should probably have a looksee at the condition.

The beeswax and Murphy's oil soap squares in my rust grid test were among the best, and the castor oil alone did better then most. I trust my own guns with the Moose Snot, but I also keep a close eye on them and do a post cleaning wipe a few days after the last shooting and cleaning just to be sure I didn't miss anything.

Cherry has iron furniture left in the white with a forced patina. I had a bit of rust appear with the bear oil only, so switched back to Moose Snot & Stealth immediately.

Well I'm using Stumpies mixes in just about everything I'm shooting now and I'm very gratful for his sharing attitude. But I've found that adding a bit of azum to the milk makes it fly along. I'm from Jersey and I found this additive in in Island close to us called Sark. I have a diferent sense of humour as well :front:

Hey Reb,

How'd you compare the two lubes?

I've always bought the pre-lubed ox-yoke pillow ticking patches. Looks like I'll have to come up with an alternative before I run out.

Almost time to go bear hunting and I haven't rendered what I have in the freezer from last year. It should still be good, right? (no I don't wanna send it nowheres for nobudddy ta test)

p.s. I don't want none of ya out there makin no snide remarks on my watch--I'l get put outa biz'nes :yakyak:

I would think that if you have had the bear fat in the freezer it would be fine. The bear oil and beeswax lube is good stuff in a smoothbore, i don't have a rifle at this time to try it in. The Moose Snot works well in it too. Haven't done any shooting for a while. TOO HOT. The Moose Snot seems to work well in warm weather, but haven't tried it in cold weather or this heat, but see no reason why it won't be fine. Actually, i think what i have is Stumpkillers Moose Marrow or some such, since it is a pretty thick lube. He sent it to me in an antiqued Altoids tin. Just wipe the patch across it before loading, or rub some into a strip of ticking. Very little fouling with it, but then i use an overshot card with a lubed cushion wad glued to it, so that scrapes a lot of fouling off when you load.

ya know riley.,maybe i should stop shootin for a while, and just help others find the way and confidence they need.
for just this past year YOU got the bear and i didn't.

i did render down the lard,,and i do have oil..yet bear oil is not the key. nor is stumpyies moose snot.. it's about shot to shot consistancy.( i give-up trying to explain ).

i just wish i could get folks ta listen. i've showed'm the pictures,,,yet everyones stubrn. they got it in their head there's a better way,, an (really) it's about the way they shoot!
i'll shoot at harris just for the woods walk, an i'll shoot at owattonna just cause i need too pass it on,,but i think next season taking a break from shooting would be a good thing.

this whole www sharing thing shouldn't be mis-understood argument's 3 day's after the post,,nor should it be misconstrued to be "only one way",'too shoot!""

Many are the way's,, but the "way's" shouldn't be mixed and matched! you know,,keep it low key,,luck too ya,,

jt?

it's about shot to shot consistancy.( i give-up trying to explain ).

no 'splainin needed here, just tryin ta find out what will be comparable to what I've been shootin so's I can maintain any consistancy that I am able to. Word has it that wonder-lube is on the end. species list (or is it just the pre-lubed patches?)

No Isle?

but i think next season taking a break from shooting would be a good thing.

nah, cain't be good for your health.

jt? No Isle?

yup, even Isle. I can spend my tyme up there doing other stuff ta help.
Lord know's I've nothing ta prove too myself anymore,,and i'm guessin, watching/helping others win stuff, and seeing the glow on their face from that, will be as much/or more fun! :D
I'm a good'nuf shooter,(others seen that already)(took a few years of "repeat",but they seen it),yet i ain't a good explainer,,only way's i can help is hands-on/show'm kinda stuff. Maybe I'll shoot the year after,,I mean "once ya got it"
