tg, how did you go about adding the larger 3 inch piece to the muzzle end of the stick?

I took a 3" piece of 3/4 dowel drilled a hole in it and glued the 3/8 rod into it then tapered it and rounded the end off.it is shown on the pic of my fusil which is probably in the smoothbore or gunbuilding archives
