Mountain Men movie Short muzzle loaders?

Mountian men with Charlton Heston and Brian Keith; mOvies not being accurate, I did notice in the opening scenes thier muzzle loaders had very short barrels: Anyone note make/model and time period accuracy?

I’ve seen some of them. They were mostly over the counter ml beat up to look older and used.
The setting of the movie is the end of tge rendezvous period. Shorter half stock rifles are correct for the time although full stock longer guns would have still been the most common
For all the laughing at the movie, they were trying to be historically correct. Much of the back ground guys were AMM, Pat Turney did much of the clothing.
Frazier was pretty heavy ‘into’ rendezvousing at the time.

I could swear in the NDN attack scene, with both Heston and Keith behind a log, Keith was shooting a T/C Hawken or one of the copies. It only flashed on the screen in profile for a instant.

He is shooting a percussion until he looses it after being captured. After that he uses a flint.

Great fun A little hokey, but it makes it even more fun. I am huge fan of both Keith and Heston

Omega Man with Heston is another fun but hokey kinda movie: LOTSA gun play with somewhat rare and off the wall weapons and gadgets are in it as well

i believe it was 1980, my girlfriend and i went to the drive-in to see that movie, she is now my wife, as she is standing over our 1935 gas stove in our cabin cooking breakfast for me and my friend and forum member "mule brain" who is here today to shoot on my range. i met her in 75 and we married in 81, the movie seems like yesterday to me. it goes fast friend,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Is this from the movie? Or was there a real life Bill Tyler?
In the movie Bill has a caplock until his capture. After he meets back up with his fellow mtn men someone gives him a flint. At least that’s how I remember things.

Great movie! I accept it for what it is, "entertainment" and enjoy the attempts at keeping it as real as possible given the context. They tried. The humor though is absolutely fantastic! I have seen it many times. I think the only scene that I just never get, is the one where Keith is in the middle of a field of snow with no shelter sitting next to a small fire when "Bill" walks up to him after escaping. I always think "He must be dreaming...."

I remember things a little differently as well, however its been a while since I've seen the movie and this is how the rifle was represented by the NRA.

I certainly need to watch Mountain Men again to refresh my memory.

I cannot say for sure about mountain men, in other movies like Quigley Down Under, there was more than one rifle used. One rifle with an aluminum barrel for everyday carry on the set and one rifle with steel barrel when the gun was being represented as being fired.
