Anyone ever have a drop in bullet impact when you finally start shoot'n off hand?

I think I might tweak a bit more but I don't know if I'll ever get it to hit the same spot.

BTW - HEY to all of you I ain't seen for a while.

Spot

Every time I sight-in over sandbags I have to tweak the sights when I move to offhand when it comes to pistols it becomes more drastic,
Ruffly three inches difference at 25 yards.

If you hold the rifle the same, and only use the bench or bags to support your hand or elbow as you sight,(holding the rifle the same) there will be no differance in your sight window.period. I cain't tell ya how many times I have seen folks put the gun on the bags, then hold the gun in there hands and gripe/(confused) because the shooting is different.

HOLD THE GUN THE SAME. Use the bench or bags to steady only! Hold the gun the same every time! Don't put the barrel on the bags! Don't put the stock on the bags!Put yer gun in your hands like always and put yer hand on the bag!

simple physics. Newtons third law. For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action..if you change the physics of the re-action the point of impact will change. The gun is doing the same thing,,(mechanics)(easy, powder, patch, ball)yet buy changing hold you have changed the physics of the re-action. simple,,I can "bench" my hand on my knee,or x sticks,or a log, or a tree,,,if I "bench" the stock or barrel that's different.

sorry but that's it,when ya learn that much then comes the off-hand tactics,,breathing, stance, muscle fatigue, vision and light, diet and excercise. If there's a 3" differance tween bench and off hand at 25 then we need to get back to basics. Sorry if you think me rude,, but we need too learn to hold the gun the same all the time first

BTW spot, welcome back,,did ya ever find any vous' near ya? A local rendezvous is a good place to learn off hand shooting skills.

"...diet and excercise..."
========================================================

Tacks

Is diet & exercise for the gun... or me?

Should I feed it all sabots (or) all roundballs?
Do I need to start taking it to the range twice a week instead of once? - maybe work the action back & forth between shots too while the barrel is coolin'??...lol

(or)

If I lose 10lbs, it'll shrink by target groups along with my waist?
Or...
Should I start running from my shooting bench to the target 100 yards away instead of walking when the Conservation Office signals for a shooting break?
Or...
I was thinkin' bout' changin' to a "double cream-double sugar" spit patch between shots. Do you really think Green Tea will work better??....lol

You school-teachin' guys crack me up... spose to take the summer off Tacks! Ya' know.... give thee ol' brain a few days off... eh!... oops... ahy????

Shooting from the bench tells you the gun's capabilities. Shooting from your hind legs tells you what the gun AND you can do. Normally the impact point is different from bench to hands only. You will generally shoot higher off the bench due to the rest being less flexible and causing the gun to bounce a bit more than hands only.

The three inch difference at 25 yards was with a pistol and you're right I was holding it tight into the sandbags.

When it comes to the rifle, theoretically you just set the rifle on top of the sandbags , put your shoulder against the butt reach up and gently pull the trigger (unless you have a terrible trigger pull, then you need to hold onto the gun with both hands) but here lies the problem when you shoot offhand, now you add the mass of your left arm holding onto the forearm," there's the difference".

Sumtacks, Your absolutely right.
Roaddog, When you shoot your pistols, rest your forearms on the bags, not the gun or your hands so the pistol can recoil
the same as offhand and it will shoot the same.

spot i think tacks said it the way it is,the only thing i can add if anything is try to hold that same weld with the cheek on the stock an try to keep the same angle as you would off hand.
I really sould do more off hand shooting my self instead of monkeyen around with different lubes. The last 3 times i have shot i shoot in the woods.I take my targest with me an set it up and shoot at different angles an yardage trying to simulate a squirrel hunt with the 36.i lean agints a tree or sit down with my back to it or just shoot off hand. Can see i need more work on the last one but im ready ifen that bushy tail aint much more an 30 yards.Found out also i couldnt see the sights as good in the dark woods as i could out in the open light.Took care of that. All i need now is to some how put a target in a tree almost straight up from me,with the leaves in early season i know im gonna have to shoot this way sometimes.I hate when them bushy tail start sneeken around the tree on ya,little varmints hard enough to hit any way with out em geten smart on me. ::

OK,

I'll stick ta off hand or rest'n my arms on the bags'.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bad sign.

Thanks gents!

Spot.

NOw all I need is some more powder!
