Greetings All,
I have just returned home from spending the day (03-05-05) at the San Antonio, Texas"'Saxtent Gun Show".
One of the vendors has an extremely nice Texas made Mowery rifle. This one is in an almost-like-new condition. It has a steel frame with a 1" across the flats 32" long barrel. Caliber is 54 and appears to be rifled for patched round ball.
The butt and forearm stocks are exceptionally fine curly maple. Sights are typical rear open iron sight, and a globe type front sight (I believe).
The price is either $350.00 or $375.00: cannot remember which.
If anybody is interested, contact James P. Duke [email protected] or (210) 363-7149.
Just for the record, during the last 15 years or so OF his life, Mr. Bill Mowery made a number of very fine underhammer rifles with enter-changeable barrels in both hunting, off-hand target weight and heavy bench rest styles.
In addition to the underhammer rifles, he made a limited number of traditional long rifles in both half-stock and full-stock design. He seem to always use the best possible maple or walnut for these projects.
Mr. Mowery was a long time member of the Texas MLRA and always displayed his fine work at our 3 times a year shoots in Brady, Texas. Nobody failed to visit his booth to check out his most recent work.
Mr. Bill Mowery was an artist and a true gentleman in the truest sense of the word. We have too few of his kind today.
Best regards, John L. Hinnant
