I have noticed some posts about these rifles over the last few months which have gotten me curious. I have one marked "Mowry", #96xx. It is a .36 and a nice little rifle with spectacular curly maple in the butt and forearm. Someone has mentioned that at one point these were manufactured in Olney, Texas, as well as other places. Does anyone know the range of numbers made in Olney? I have numerous relatives in that part of the world.
Thanks,
Charlie

The only ones available today are Mowreys in kit form from Deer Creek Products in Indiana. :m2c:

Mowreys are at:

Deer Creek Products
P.O. Box 246
Waldron, Indiana 46128
Phone:765.525.6181

They are sold as "assembled kits" $365 + $12 shipping, "Completely Assembled Ready to Fire" according to their 2005 catalog, which just came in the mail.

FYI, their catalog also lists a "Mowrey Gun Works", with the same address as Deer Creek, leading me (perhaps incorrectly) :hmm: to believe they are one in the same. I'm sure Union Creek probably just orders from Deer Creek. Union Creek also sells Deer Creek made BP rifles kits.

Check out the prices tho... Union Creek is listing Mowreys at $340, and Deer Creek rifle kits at the same price as Deer Creek.

yep i am in the prosses of selling on here in our adds listing that is spelled the same way and is just as you discribe but in 45 ??? no E in mowry

Mowry vs Mowrey - I think the first must be the original out of Texas made in the early 70's. Not bad guns at all. Passed on two a while back and am sorry I did. I don't know much about the Indiana guns. Look like the same ones except I noticed the name change. I do know that I've seen some disappointing posts on the quality of the Deer Creek rifles.

I currently own 2 of them and traded off a 3rd one a few years back. Wish I knew then what I've realized now: All 3 guns had different spellings on the barrel: Mowry, Mowery and Mowrey.

I love the guns - No matter how the name on the barrel is spelled! Seldom do I find a rifle that fits as comfortably against my shoulder and has the same exquisite balance and dependability as my good ol' Mow(sp)reys.

...The Kansan...

The 2nd edition of the Black Powder Gun Digest printed in the 70's lists the guns as "MOWERY" they were distributed by INTERARMS. There was also a " Texas Carbine .58 cal "
distributed by Trail Guns Armory.
I spoke to Deer Creek and Union Creek......both places sell the same guns and they are made in Indiana.
Was also told that the receiver on the new guns will fit
the OLD models but the innards must be changed....
....ya find somthing out everyday if ya just look around.
