been talking with a buddy and he has his brothers mowrey. he says last he could remember his brother wanted 350$ for it. .50cal 32"bbl. and not hardly a mark on it. bore looks perfect. xmas. eve day I get in my pickup after work and there is a mowrey in the front seat. so we have to figure it is the one for sale and santa did not bring it?? anyway I read somewhere on here that the early ones were good and the later not so good?? does that sound right? and how would a guy figure out early or later?? nice rifle. just kinda wondering. I don't know anything about them. thanks.

I had a Mowrey that I put together from a kit back in the late 70's. It was a brass framed 36 cal. and it was just a sweet little rifle. Great barrel, nice wood, and it was the most well balanced, nicest pointing gun you could ask for.

Sounds like a Merry Christmas :hatsoff:

Recently got one myself and like you I don't know much about them. Mine has only mowrey, .54 and the serial number stamped on it. I am told this is likely one of the lesser desirable models however my serial number is significantly less than one another fellow who says is definitely built in Texas.

I'm just going to shoot it and smile

Would like to see some pictures of yours.

If you're talking fit and finish, yes, the early ones marked "Olney, Texas" are probably better. The later ones shot fine but didn't seem to have the same amount of time put into polish and finish of wood or metal. Free personal opinion and worth every penny!
