Well I got my two barrels back from Mr. Hoyt and was very sad. The note he wrote said the one barrel was too pitted to ream out? and he said the other had a hole where the first lug was. To be honest I think he just looked at them and took my check and cashed it, they were the same as when they left my house. I got charged $165 for him to look down the barrel and say its no good. I have yet to contact him as we all know he is very hard to get a hold of but I will try but I feel like I got reamed and not my barrels.

Do things as you see fit, but if it were me I would make every effort to talk to the man before posting something like that for the entire world to see. I could speculate, but that's what you're doing without speaking with him first.

I sure I am overreacting, but I usually do, I am not trying to slur the man just explaining what happened and how it seemed when I first looked at what I got versus what I sent and maybe he did what he could do and it was a no go,( I left my cell number and email address with a note on what we talked about and a check for $165- $60 for each barrel and the rest for shipping), I do trust his judgement. Just feel bad that I've got about $350 invested tomato stakes or (open for suggestions). The threaded barrel was purchased on the forum and was told it was around a .58 caliber and was possibly French and had a nice hand filed flat on top and one on each side

, the other was a .62? oct. to round London made barrel with a flint to percussion conversion which I sawed off to re-breach for flint. and the non threaded was an Ebay purchase I will try to contact him tomorrow morning by phone. I think he might be confused, I sent one barrel that was pretty rough and had breached it and threaded it, the other barrel had the breach area cut off and had not been threaded. The note that he left me said " I tried but can't do anything with them. one with no threads has bad pits in steel, don't use to shoot. other I reamed but didn't clean up it has a hole at front lugs." First pic is non threaded barrel from muzzle, second is the threaded one which is obviously pitted badly and the third pic is from the non threaded at breach you can see where it wasn't cleaned up per debris but it looks mirror like on the bore. I knew the threaded one was a crap shoot so kind of expected something to not work out but the non threaded had one spot that was weird in it when I sent it off and it looks better. So what I read into it was reverse from what he said per the pictures. Badly pitted was threaded and vice versa. He did what he could, I wish I could have had other options and I didn't mind waiting until whenever for them to come back maybe a rebore?

Well not the entire world just this small muzzleloading world I suppose. First reaction to what I had and got but I'm over it and will talk with Mr. Hoyt about if there are any other options. And I am speculating without speaking you are correct. Thanks for the smack in the head.

Bob made me two barrels at two different times and I had them both in my hands before I even sent a check. It don't sound like him. There must be something he did to charge you.

He tried but it would have been nice if he called and gave me an option of them being even worthy of reaming or a futile effort.

The man said, " I tried but can't do anything with them. one with no threads has bad pits in steel, don't use to shoot. other I reamed but didn't clean up it has a hole at front lugs." SO, he DID do something and he charged you for it. His time isn't free.

I guess Mr. Hoyt has done a couple dozen barrels for me, both new ones and ones he bored out and rerifled. Always has sent the barrels and an invoice. One of the last craftsmen that I know of who would trust a customer to pay.

I had one barrel done by Mr Hoyt recently. Haven’t fired it yet but expect great things. It looks excellent. My experience was fantastic. I imagine a certain amount of time and effort was invested to remove the plugs ( nasty barrel so probably a lot of effort) plus a certain amount of reaming on both. 60.00 on each barrel could be ate up quickly. Sounds like the metal might be too compromised to reline. Sorry for your bad luck.

The issue is when you post comments on forums. I believe most skim over them an don't read the whole content. Which can indeed cause people in business unnecessary headaches.
But we all should give the business its do time before we post negatively on here or any other forum. JMPO

Did not mean to cast a shadow of negativity just frustration. Mr Hoyt did tell me the last I talked with him is that he was having problems getting his money from barrels that were sent back to the owners, that is why I sent him a check with my barrels.

That is NOT the Bobby Hoyt I dealt with. He was a true gentlemen, fair and honest. I called him to ask about my barrel, he told me he had already mailed it back to me with the bill, and to send him a check! That is exactly what i did! He did fine work at a fair price and was not concerned that he wouldn't get paid etc. His biggest problem is that he does not have a phone in his shop,which is separated from his home, and that he is a one man operation, so getting in touch is not always as fast or easy as we might want it to be. But be patient and you will get in touch with him. IMHO.

Sounds like the world we live in, a few bad apples mess it up for everyone else. I'm certain he will make it right once he is aware of the problem, likely just an oversight.

Bobby Hoyt is the best thing to happen in the muzzle loading world since the black powder craze started back in the 70's with T/C coming out with the Hawken. He is the "go to" guy for all black powder barrel work, and we are very fortunate to have such an honest gentleman to deal with. I have no doubt, that Mr. Hoyt will do what he can to make things better for the OP.
