I have been wondering about that myself. I made one once, but this should be much better. Does anyone know what the internals look like?

I'm hoping more like a triggered replacement lock, but anything would be interesting...Other than the one lock that The Rifle shoppe makes, no one else makes one that would be easily obtainable.

I too am curious as to how it works. I was thinking, ( I know a dangerous procedure), that it might be used to convert a flintlock to a caplock by unscrewing the flash hole liner and screwing a nipple in its place. YMMV, keep yer powder dry.......robin :hmm:

Muzzleloader's builder supply says....
LK-ME-2500 - Right-Hand Mule Ear / Side Slap Percussion Lock

This lock will fit the Durs Egg lock inlet. 5" long, X 15/16" wide.

Link below also shows internals.

L&R says:
and is fully interchangeable with our popular Durs Egg Model

Here is another company that makes mule ear lock for T/C guns. http://pioneerarms.com/mule_ear_lock.html

The price is real reasonable and it looks like they have overcome all the shortcomings of a mule ear lock. The ignition should be almost instantaneous. I expect they will be quite popular.

Oh, I see how they make it work, they double sear it with the trigger sear at 90 degrees to the hammer sear.
That's three lever movement which probably would complicate getting a crisp breaking trigger.

I haven't used L&R 's . but my Tingly has a mule ear with a half cock and I like it.But mine does not have a fly for use with a set trigger. :idunno:

I purchased a Mule Ear lock from Pioneer Arms as a swap out to my Lyman Great Plains Flintlock. I just remove the touch hole line and replace it with a nipple. Ignition is very fast, and the trigger pull is crisp. The only draw back with this Pioneer lock as it does not have a half cock, but the designer says it is made for target shooting when a cap is installed just prior to shooting. I have made an antler wedge that i place between the side hammer and the lock plate that holds the hammer out enough to install a cap, and to act as a half cock. When the hammer is brought to full cock, the wedge drops out and is held by a thong attached to the trigger guard.
I like the versatility of having the two locks as it has allowed me to shoot the gun when real BP is not available, or when caps get too hard to find.

This site adds /fusionbb/forum/ and some other manure to the end of any link we post.... folks remember to just remove everything after .com and all is good. :youcrazy: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:
