That was my thought too. It would relieve some of the back pressure from the main charge.So the gases could go out the holes instead of driving the hammer backwards after the main charge detonated.
Thanks, that’s what I figured. I have a replacement TRESO made from AMPCO alloy that doesn’t have the vent.It’s made as a vent. The sparks are supposed to go to the powder rather then the whole flash.
Now the argument can start.
That's because the 'hole' is a modern patented feature, so not all nipples will have them. The intent of the hole is to release gas from the ignition enough to split a standard percussion cap open for easier removal.Modern day sales gimmick… never saw one on an original, nor in competition.
