Welp...Cornstalk seemed pretty happy with that coffin handle bowie, so he had me make up another knife for him. He asked for a Musso style bowie this time, so here it is all finished up... 🙂

It just got shipped out the other day, so still waiting for it to reach it's new home.

Really nice bowie. Runewolf i have seen brass before on the spine of bowies. What is its function or pupose?

There are different theories regarding that. Most common theory is that the softer brass was intended to catcb an opponents blade during combat. My theory is that it was more of an eye-catcher than a blade catcher. Someone wanted their knife to stand out or look more unique than all the rest....and that's exactly what it does, but who knows.

how did you drill the row of holes the attach back piece? before the tempering process I presume?

After heat treating and tempering. The blade was edge quenched, so the spine was still soft enough to drill with normal HSS bits. I also used some silver solder, I just wanted the pins for that extra reassurance.

and they look killer. like that they were the holding devises for holding it on.

I have been looking for a knife this style. Can you make another? What would be the cost?
