Anyone seen or read about this practice? Years ago I saw some early ML's with engraving called Flowering, something about making the ticking fold consistanly. I saw this at a shop in Fairbanks that made muzzleloaders from scratch. After seeing a few of his guns I asked him to work my muzzle a bit. This barrel shoots great anyway so I have no clue if it worked or not, but I love the way it looks.

Chef,
I don't have an answer for you but i'm

nice claude.but that doesnt seem basic.i think flowering is more basic :v

Let me clarify...

The original question was, "Anyone seen or read about this practice?"

My answer was, "I've seen basic file work and some very intricate engraving." I did not define what was basic or intricate, only that I had seen both. I posted a photo of my muzzle, as an example, without defining it.

after i wrote that i was starting to think lol what you were doing poped into my head

One good additon to the posting on this forum would be to add an **EDIT** option.

Several times, I've posted something that I wished I could correct, but I have not figured out how to do it. Would it be possible to add an edit feature, or tell me what the secret is to being able to edit my post?

i think you cabn push the edit button if its been under two hours i think  i would have edited but i was gone by then

The forum allows you 30 minutes to edit your post. We figure that's enough time to spell check it and make changes.

We don't allow changes at a later date, because experience has shown forum operators that people will go back days later and change something to "undo" something they said.

Any new or pertinent information to a thread can always be made with a new post.

Here's the muzzle on my flintlock.

Very nice, have to keep that idea in mind, have a 36 I'm rebuilding. Its one of the early 70s imports I'm told "Kentuckian" with a 3 digit ser# so I'm a bit leary of cutting it. But it is just an import sooooo. Anyway If I can swing a new Hawken past my wife I'll cut a but on it to get a good custom personal touch.

The bore is coned a great deal and then the rifleing filed back in by hand. It's a .60 caliber, and probably measures about a .66 cal at the muzzle. It shoots excellent, .....did you expect anything less?.... :blah: :winking: :haha:

Mike,
That wouldn't be a Mark Silver Virginia would it?
Don Getz described for me how to do the same thing on the one I'm building right now.
He calls it the Heinie muzzle.
I did it, I think it's awesome.
Same coned .60 cal Getz. It's a lot easier than I thought. :v

I have a book on Blunderbus. One picture shows a muzzle engraved "HAPPY HE WHO ESCAPES ME"

Here's another one. Don Getz called it his Hiney muzzle. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Smallpatch/Hiney Muzzle/P1000874_edited.jpg[/img]
