I have been looking for a Pedersoli sxs muzzleloading shotgun for some time. I recently came across one made for Navy Arms by Davide Pedersoli made in Italy. It's a 12ga and the craftsmanship appears to be excellent. Everything on it is engraved. I have done some searches but I can't seem to find any information on the gun such as when it was made, or any other details on the gun. Does anyone know anything about this gun and what it might be worth? Like I said it is mint! Beautiful looking gun. Thanks in advance.

Not sure which one you are talking about but they did make them for Navy Arms. I had one of their Turkey&Trap models and it was a good gun. Parts fit together well. Finish was nice and it patterned pretty tight. I shot the 2nd. biggest turkey I have ever gotten with it. My one big fault with it was that it didn't have enought drop in the stock to fit me. I had to place my check further back on the stock then normal. It just might have been me as I stand 6' 4".

Identical problem...38" sleeve length.
Navy Arms .12ga SxS was too short and too light for me...like trying to use a toy...added a slip-on recoil pad to gain another inch but it was still too short...sold it after I switched to Flintlocks...

I have two 12 ga sxs percussion shotguns, both were sold by Navy Arms. One was made by Pedersoli in 1976:

and the other by Pietta in 1984:

Remove the barrel and look on the underside near the breech. There will be several proof and inspector's marks. One will be a square with two capital letters in it; this is the manufacturer's year code. Here's the decoder ring:

A gunsmithing friend of mine has it and has decided to sell it. I took the barrel off and it has an "X" in a block underneath the breech. The stock also has "54" stamped into the wood right below it. So I guess this means it was made in 1954? Like I said, it is mint and has Pedersoli on it in several places. The only thing that has been done to it he placed a nice recoil pad on it and it now has screw in choke tubes.

What is your impression of this gun? What would be a fair price? Thanks to all!

I am 6'2" and it is a little short but not bad at all due to the new recoil pad, which I would say you would need. I bet this thing kicks like a Missouri Mule, lol.

One more thing, he says he has a matching 10ga double barrel and also a double barrel rifle (.54 caliber) I believe that fits this gun also. He says the 10ga has Pedersoli in Gold labeling. Does this make any sense?

For your height, the Length of pull for that stock should be about 14 inches. You can put spacers between the butt of the stock ands the recoil pad to add length to the LOP.I had that done on a Winchester Model 94 Lever action .30-30, and everyone I know who is over 6 feet tall loves that rifle. They all tell me its the best fitting .30-30 they have ever held or shot. As with this gun, you don't need the recoil pad for the recoil- only for the stock length.

As to value: With the added screw in chokes, and the recoil pad, I would think the gun is worth $600. It is used, whether its been fired or not. It is also 40 years old, if your reading of the markings is correct. :hatsoff:

Do you get the extra barrels with the deal?If you do, I would jump on that.Thats alot of variety for the asking price. You can always extent the stock to fit, that would be the least of my worries.

I had a N-A double 12 ga. and it was called the "Magnum". Like the one you are looking at, it was very well fitted and engraved. As I am only 5'-9" it fit me vey nicely. It was a well built, heavy gun. I had another Pedersoli double 12 ga. and it was not half the gun, in weight and finish. However, it did shoot well, recoil was noticeably heavier, but the turkeys were just as good.

If the other barrels come with the gun you describe, I would think the package would be worth $1,000 and more. You just are not going to find double rifle barrels in .54, and that .10 gauge set makes a whole other shotgun, if it fits.

The metal work on the guns is good enough to justify spending money to buy a newer, and better figured stock, if you are not happy with the one on it. If ou contact Dick Greensides, at Pecatonica, he can use the existing stock to make a new one with whatever grade of wood choose. He also can length the stock a bit, so You can decide if you want a recoil pad, or simply obtain a metal buttplate from Track of the Wolf, or other suppliers, to put on the gun. Pedersoli might even supply a buttplate for the gun.

My CVA kit shotgun was way too short for me, so I added a recoil pad to add the length needed to the stock. The drop at the comb was not enough, so I removed wood to get it to point correctly for me. The wood on the gun is plain jane something- probably birch or ash. I am thinking of having Dick Greensides make a new stock for me, so I can dispense with the recoil pad. While it makes my gun distinctive, it does not fit with that period of gun. A proper American Walnut stock, with a metal buttplate is what it needs.

I don't recall the recoil as being excessive. Been awhile but I believe the load I was using was 90grs. with equal amout of shot which was about 1 1/4 on. As for price I have noticed that all of the overseas guns are climbing in price as far as new ones go. Check on the auction sites and see whay they are asking for them to get an idea.

He is asking $150 for the .54 caliber double rifle barrels but he still thinking on his price for the 10ga. I bought the gun and I am deciding on the extra rifle barrel and waiting on the price for the 10ga. I would love to have both extra barrels.

Thanks for the info and the feedback.
