This is an early lancaster I build for a friend.
He is a big time hunter and wanted to try his hand at "primitive hunting" Saw me shooting my flintlocks at the range and decided he wanted to buy one. Rather then buy a "factory rifle" I told him I would be happy to build him one.
So this is it.
No frills, Just an L&R lock, Colerain B-weight .50 cal. 36" swamped barrel for the bush.
I had to give him a set trigger but I have to show him how to use it. It can be set "SO LIGHT"
Curly maple stock.
The wood is much nicer then the pictures show, with curl and figure through the whole length.
I think I put the lock in a little low :cursing:
also No matter how many I build, I aways think " I can't take any more wood away", but when you actualy get her all assembled and finished they end up looking a little fat.
Oh-well this one has nice clean lines and the fit and finish is the best I have done so far.
I hesitated in posting after that wonderfull "York",but this is going to be a working rifle, hopefully seeing many days in the field and taking a deer or two home for the family.
I am going to test fire it and then sight it in with him this week.
Hope he likes it.
The price is going to be fair, cost of the parts plus some thing for my time.

Beautiful work. I think your friend will cherish his "one of a kind". At the deal you are giving him, he's got to be a great friend. I hope he realizes just how much work you have put into it. But that is how labors of love are. You can never do enough nice things for the ones you care about.

Beautiful rifle Old Army :applause: ! I'd never hesitate to post and show off that kind of work  !

Nice lookin rifle OldArmy, glad you decided to post some pics of her. To you shape the stock yourself from the rough or did you buy a pre carved where did you get yer parts from ?

A thing of beauty, simple clean lines. Looks velvet smooth. Very nice Job. Your friend is a lucky guy. Bill

Thanks for the kind words
It's a pre-carve.
I need to start building from a blank, but they are so much work as it is.
You know how on TOW they say 40 hrs is typical building time,, yea right.. maybe for a pro.
I have a couple of pistols for my son planned next and then I am bulding that Mark Silver Chambers Virginian rifle for Me.
I have been eyeballing it for years, but needed to wait until my skills were good enough. Looks too nice to do a hack job on it

Please don't tell me it is a 60 cal..........#1 on my wish list!

Beautiful rifle - nice clean lines, and a very pleasing overall look. I'd love to have that rifle with me in the woods. Your friend is a lucky man!

Good luck with the Virginia rifle - IMO the most interesting Chambers rifle, and you should be able to make a great job of it. Look forward to seeing the pictures!

Beautiful rifle, thanks for posting pics. I'm working on 3 right now. A 32 caliber Lancaster longrifle, an English Fowler, and a Northwest Trade Rifle.

Thanks again
I haven't decided on the cal. on the Virginian. I need to call up Jim and Barbie after they get back from Dixon's fair. I hated to miss it, but things just didn't quite work out.
My mentor just started on one of their Fowlers in 28 gauge and he said the wood they sent him is the best he has seen in years.
I always thought they were a little pricy, but the difference beteem them and the other suppliers isn't that much anymore
I need to get him to post his work here.

Fine looking piece, OldArmy! Your friend is a lucky man, and he will count himself fortunate to call you his friend each time he shoulders it. My hat is off to you! :hatsoff:

He'd have to be a real picky guy not to like that rifle. It's sweet lookin'.

A very nice rifle, Oldarmy
:hmm: Say, if I might ask, what's that iron-mounted rifle on the right-side of the third photo?

Nice gun.....but I want to know how you got permission to display your "old dirty guns" on the nice clean bed? I'd have to sneak to get away with that!!!
