My eyes are going bad!

I know this might sound very unconventional, but I'm considering mounting a red dot sight on my hawken.. I'm at the stage where I have a very hard time focusing on the rear sight or the front sight.
Where do I go from here? Is there a picatinny or weaver rail I can mount on the barrel that will allow a red dot sight? and if so, where would you mount it?

A peep sight or diopter attachment to your shooting glasses might be of more benefit.

I agree a peep would be a good step. I do not think I could put a red dot or a telescope on a traditional muzzleloader. But if that is your only option to keep you shooting who am I to judge?

One of my rifles has a fiber optic front sight and a ghost ring rear. Works good for me.
If you were to mount a scope you'd have to consider the hammer position and have your scope far enough forward so not to interfere with the hammer.

There are flat plates for mounting onto pistol slides. I bet one of them could be used to mount it on a barrel. Any gunsmith could drill and tap it to make it work.

I had to put a red dot on my shotguns. I have a strong left eye, but am right eye dominate.
I get a crossed focus. The red dot fixed it.
But on the muzzle loaders, try a 'ghost Ring', along with the regular sights.
The big circle without the peep helps focus the eye.

Try a web sight aperturenmore.com....they claim to have T/C tang peep sights, also try eBay....found a few there as well. I have a T/C tang peep on my Hawken, not authentic but it’s what I need to be able to shoot.

A pea sized piece of masking tape on some glasses could of fixed that!

There is a brass replica civil war era telescopic sight
available. I know in Florida they allow them in the
muzzle-loading season for bad eyesight.

I have two Great Plains rifles with spare barrels. The spares are fitted with a scope mount base ahead of the action with LER scopes (pistol scopes) mounted in them for hunting. When removed and plugged, they are barely noticeable. They work fine and really help. A very simple job for a gunsmith (or any machinist) to drill and tap a couple of holes.

Williams Gun Sights makes a tang mounted peep sight for the TC Hawken. I personally purchased and mounted one on my TC Hawken before this past hunting season.

I have bought 3 red dots in the last year. I really like the 'shake awake' option long battery life, and they turn on when picked up.

No burning up the battery just sitting there.

I like the dot in a circle for faster centering.
