hey guys, Im still new to the forum, and just picked up my first flintlock. Ive been using a Traditions Pennsylvania Hunter (for sale in classified section of the forum), but decided I was ready to take the flint plunge. I paid 750 bucks in an online auction, and although I havent shot it yet, it seems like a good purchase.

I was able to find out some interesting history about the gun, which is engraved by its maker David Decker. He was the resident gunsmith at Tannehill State Park in Alabama. I found some old newspaper articles about him, which state that he made all his guns by hand, with hand tools. I think the lock is an old Dixie Gun Works, but the rest appears to be custom. This gun was presented to the park museum in 1982 (the year I was born) and supposedly never shot. Dave Decker made rifles from the 60s until his passing in the late 80s, and here is a sample of his work...

Having trouble getting the photos to upload.

the pictures dont come up.

if you indeed got a custom flintlock for a mere $750 then you came out well! these days $750 will just cover the parts for a good flintlock.

oldsoul,

Try photobucket for pics. I am on dialup and have no problem. Would like to see your gun but the link wants me to "sign up".

Soli Deo Gloria!

Yes, you'll have to get a photobucket account and insert pictures through the "direct link" code.

Yep, post some photos. I want to see this rifle. Sounds like you got the deal of the century. Congrats!!

You either need to get photobucket or change the security settings on your facebook page.

Sounds like a hell of a rifle. But I am wondering why the museum decided to part with it.

Hey guys, it took me a while, but here you go. If you want to see more let me know.

Soli Deoi Gloria!

Jeez, Why can't I find deals like that!! Very nice rifle!, and yes please let us know how it shoots. You must have been the only one bidding!

Looks like a reproduction of a Lancaster County Dickert rifle. You got a bargain.

THANKS EVERYONE! Its nice to know that I wasnt swindled. Im very wary of buying anything on this googe box, let alone dropping that kind of money on a gun Ive never touched.
Still havent been to the range because all my local powder suppliers are out of stock. But someone asked about the caliber. Its a .45, with a 42in barrel. I took the gun apart for cleaning and couldnt find any markings on the barrel. leads me to think that it really is a custom build. I found a picture of the maker doing his own rifling, pretty cool!

Wow - you really got a great looking rifle for not much moola. I know it seems like a lot to spend now, but after awhile you'll see just what a bargain a nice custom rifle for $750 is.

You did good, pilgrim.

ps - You'll really like the calibre, too.
