HI ALL,
someone asked for a range report a while back and I finally got around to putting one together. As you can see from the photo I need to adjust the sights a little, but the gun shoots like a dream. Recoil is negligible on that .45, balance is right on, lock throws lots of spark, and I couldnt be happier.
My last shot was high because I had 2 misfires in a row after 4 flawless shots. So I turned the flint over and tried again, but because of the bevel change the frizzen only opened halfway and directed the pan flash right back in my face causing me to flinch. The actual problem was that the flint was dirty, so I learned to wipe it off between shots when I wipe out the pan!
After I got done shooting I grabbed my fire kit and headed to the cedar swamp on our property to practice fire making with flint and steel. Started a small fire, ate my lunch, and smoked a pipe before calling it a day. NOW THATS LIVING!

Ya got the beautiful rifle AND its accompanying pistol? WHOA! That is just too sweet. I wonder when, or IF your luck is ever going to run out!

Looks like you got bit hard by the bug. Bit me 3 years ago and hasn't let up yet. I have a rifle from that era with a Douglas barrel that is dead on accurate. The former owner had it built for him by Hap Spangler in Ohio in the 60s. He told me which ball patch and load. Second shot dead in the bull. He used to go to turkey shoots and had it dialed in well. Got it very reasonably. One of my best deals ever. I think it might be on this forum if you search for Spangler. Anyway,

Yup, any ignition, any combo thereof, any optics, any indescrections...you know, even those "other" muzzleloaders :td:
But only in the regular rifle season. Must be at least .44 caliber IIRC :hmm:
