Volatpluvia I think your lookin to set a record with blow gun . You need to invite us over to help harvest some of them deer dont want them running over all the shubs and flowers and making a mess . All joking aside thats great that you get to see turkeys and deer like that

Man I need HELP :surrender: As luck would have it things were a bit slow at work today, and I ended up bringing another gonne home tonight. This one in .50 cal.

crygable,
No, I won't use any poison. I know a guy who claims he's killed squirrels with the darts. Now, I think squirrels are tougher than turkey. But I figure I'd have to hit them thru the spine in the neck, or through the head/brain, or thru the blood vessels in the neck. Now that would be no mean trick! Hee Hee! In NJ I would probably wind up in jail for using an illegal weapon. Haw!!

Volatpluvia,
I'm intrigued by the blow gun, Do you have a link to a good site?
I use to be hi-tech on all weapons, shooting Hi-Power silhouette competition. Then came my brother and guys like LHunter and they pulled me back a few centuries. I'm having a real hoot doing this stuff. I have built a golf ball navel, and a 4" mortar cannon as well. Heck I now hunt traditional archery, got 3 ground hogs last summer with the old recurve.

I got mine from cheaperthandirt.com. It is high quality for the price. A simple aluminum tube .40 caliber. It has a mouth piece but I can't use it because of my beard, so I just take it off. It has a worse than useless front sight so I take that off to shoot. It has a 'magazine' for the darts of which they supply 12 with the gun. the darts are simple stiff wire with extremely sharp needle point on them, with a soft plastic collar that obdurates the bore and provides a modicum of acurracy. Actually with some practice I can make a three to four inch group at 20 feet or so. Sometimes I have even driven the dart wire thru the plastic collar of a previous shot. You can order hunting darts (12 to a pack) that have a bit of a broadhead on them. Also you can order all plastic short darts for shooting at living things you don't want to 'stick'. It is a lot of fun, but I don't think I am serious about hunting with it. One would have to wait on game to get within ridiculously short range. Mine is three feet long. You can get a four footer, but it is two piece. I imagine you could easily make one from longer tubes of aluminum. I would think the longer, the more velocity and more acurracy. I watched a missionary break a balloon on the first shot with an eight foot bamboo gun with cotton as obduration on a short wood dart. The only sound was the balloon popping. He put his lips to the gun and the balloon popped. I did not see the dart flying. There could be something to this.

That's very interesting, thanks for your thoughts. It sounds like it would be fun in the basement during the winter months anyway.
Thanks Again!

Well the new toy showed up on thurs now i have to make a tiller up this ought to be some fun !!

I used to do a lot of blowgun hunting in my youth. It takes quite a long tube to get decent velocity and accuracy, but they can be amazingly accurate with enough practice. I've taken game as large as Texas jackrabbits with them. I can see them taking squirrel or turkey with the right blade (don't try wire darts on larger game) and good aim.

Here is my first target with the 50. cal.

Good going Craig  ! I got the tiller on mine today now to use it !

Way to go, Craig. I just got out shooting mine for the first time today. Sure is hard getting 3 shots on a piece of paper, but it seems to be getting a bit easier. I wish I had started with a smaller gonne! :rotf:

Volatpluvia,
Sorry, it is not a standard size paper. It is 15" square. But i did get lucky and get all 15 shots on paper. I shocked myself.
Heck i would have shot more but did not bring enough fuse along. Another member showed up while i was shooting and just shook his head, I love keepen um guessing.

I don't think so, I was out today and could not hit anything. I don't know what i was doing wrong. But I did have a great time. LHunter and I had the attention of the others at the shoot today. I think we really got them stired up. Quite a few of em were talking about doing gonnes.

We really had liberal stances to use. Just so we did not use an artificial rest. I put my tiller over my shoulder and use cannon fuse to give me time to aim. That is how I did it.

That is what I did as well. Sufficed to say, my group wasn't as good as I would normally get with a rest. But at least I got three shots on paper!

I bought a couple of .40 caliber blowguns for me & my 11yr old after coming home from his Boy Scout Day Camp last summer. They are alot of fun & surprisingly accurate. Here's the website I bought it from, good people & quick service. http://www.blowgunsnw.com/

I shot over the shoulder, but used the linstock for ignition and that presented it's own set of problems when it came to aiming. From now on I think I'm going to use fuse. It was a royal hoot all around. I can't wait to get out shooting it again.
