I just finished my first powder horn to give to a friend in PA. My wife bought me the Sibley's book on horns for my birthday and I just ran with it. Pretty pleased with the results. What do you think?

As far as the portrait, I'm not really that artistically inclined. There are several free programs on the net that will convert your photo into a sketch drawing that would be suitable for scrimshaw. I resized it to my liking and then transfered the image to the horn with graphite paper (carbon paper) made by Speedball. I used a blunt needle in a pin vise to transfer the really fine lines. After that it's just patience and a steady hand.

You did good! Not bad for a young whippersnapper!
Now you need to jion the shoot for the young guys.

Is the face a likeness of your friend? That is excellent work. So far, every time I've tried to scrim a face it has been a miserable failure. Maybe I'll try it again...you've inspired me.
