Here is a powder horn I finished, that is a salute to the Hudson's Bay Company. The front engravings are of two HBC Traders, bartering with some Native American's on furs. The back side of this horn has the English royal seal and HBC seal.__ Round dome base is American walnut including the beaver tail carved stopper.

Thanks for looking!

Rick

Quite nice work on this one. However I have not seen a bad one that you have done....................watch yer top knot...............

I think I like this horn more than any other horn you have made(that I have seen). Very well done!!!!

You should write a book on how you got started and got so good as you went along. Those should be hanging in an art museum. Have any pics of your first ones?...

That's REALLY NICE Rick! Along with the Chiefs question, I have a few as well. How many Horns have you made? Do you have a favorite? How long does it take you start to finish, to make one as complicated as one like this one?
Sorry.. but I been itching to ask ya and now seem as good as time as any!

Rick, your work is just impressive to say the least! The work is so life like!

How did you learn to scrimshaw and what advice would you have for someone wanting to start to learn the craft?

I have tried it and one of my biggest problems is controlling the scribe. What starts out as a decent pencil sketch. Quickly turns into a 2nd graders art project. I try to follow a line and can't seem to do it too save my soul!

The purpose of posting my horns here, is not to brag or ask for praise, but to show off some of my horn work in a hobby that has been very enjoyable to me since the mid 70's. I don't try to suggest, that I am an expert or authority of any type, as we have enough of those to go around already! __ I can't talk much about my Hornsmithing without violating the CRAFTSMEN topic's rule, but I will say, that any of you are welcome to ask me any questions through the PM method. __ Sorry, not wanting to sound like a snob, but I don't want to violate TMF rules!

Thank you everybody for your very nice and welcomed comments!

Rick
