somewhere around 7 months ago i put a request up on this forum for someone to build me a Jaeger rifle. i recieved a number of offered and ended up selecting a gentleman named Joe Schell (longrifle78).

we started out with a pile of parts that i had selected via information i got from this forum.

-a swamped 32" 58 cal Jaeger barrel from Rice barrels.
-RE davis double set trigger and trigger gaurd.
-Jim Chammbers early germanic lock
-sling swivels, ramrod tubes, and butt plate from TOTW
-a black walnut blank.

roughly 6 months after my order, the gun has arrived! the gun is very well balanced and feels to be around 7 pounds. the LOP is 13 3/4" and the butt plate is wide at 1 7/8" making the rifle well suited for heavy loads. i plan to try and take better pictures later tonight but for the moment ill post the pictures he took before sending it to me. these pictures really dont do the rifle justice as you cant see most of the details of the gun.

Now you done it you got me to wanting a Jaeger again
I had been looking at Jim Chambers kits and almost forgot :haha:

I've seen your posts how bad you've been wanting one. Good to see you got it...and in a very decent amount of time! Looks good! After just finishing my own build the few shots I've taken so far have told me that Rice barrel (mine is in .62) is sweeeeeeeeet!

Beautiful. I hacked together a TOTW kit kit some years ago but wish I had used walnut like yours. I mistakenly went with curly maple. Your jaeger is awesome!

i didnt want anything fancy, my goal was a sturdy hunting rifle build to resist the enviroment and my clumbsy handling. this gun feels sturdy enough to club a deer to death.

at first i wasnt going to have any carving but towards the end of the build i decided i wanted some light work to keep it from being too plain. the carving he did looks great but it doesnt really show up in the pictures he sent.

That is a fine looking jaeger, trim and not at all clunky. Either a jaeger or an EL will be my next (hope) rifle.

Hmmmm. Even though you have included a pull-tab in the images for comparison I can't give you a good evaluation without further analysis. You'd better ship it to me for a fair review.

Rice swamped barrel and Chambers Early Germanic. You've got a good start! That's what I have on my Lehigh (but 12" longer barrel). ;-)

as it turns out, my camera sucks. the pictures came out very poor quallity and simply not acceptable to post.

if you wanna get a better look at my Jaeger, ya will have to join me for a shoot some time.

will be going to the range this weekend to get er sighted in. still havent got my .570 mold worken right so i will be using a store bought box of .570s. cant wait!

on a side note, something i learned is that while the chambers website calls out for 7/8 x 3/4. a 7/8 flint is really too big, i think ill be able to make em work by chippen off the backside to make them shorter. i think what he really ment on his website was 3/4 x 7/8. in the future thats the size ill be using.
