My Kentucky rifle!

Morning started off super cool and clouded over, made me wish I was hunting! Perfect weather to go shooting and so I loaded up the Traditions Kentucky .50cal flinter with 90gr 3f Olde Eynsford, .490" round ball, .020" moose milk lubed patches and set my target up at 100 yards.

I did try 90gr 2f goex but the ignition slowed down badly and it was hard to keep the shots on paper due tot he drop difference.

I bedded the rifle a little while back and so this was basically the first time I have shot the gun since the bed job. I am super happy with the results, I will fine tune later down the road once I pick up some more powder. Aprox 4 1/2" group at 100 yards.

I had PowderInc. send me 5lbs of Olde Eynsford 2ff last week. Its been too hot an humid lately to get out but the range will see me tomorrow. I like the looks of it, the grains are more uniform and a bit smaller than regular 2ff Goex. How was the fouling? Everybody that shoots it says the fouling is lighter and its easier to clean up after a range trip.

I have to ask. Do you really need 90 grains of powder in a 50 caliber gun? I recently was shooting at a target at 400 yards with my .54 longrifle and only used 75 grains of 3F. I use 90 grains of 2F in my .72 Bess.

Try lowering your powder charge.

The biggest thing I shoot is hurling a .648 ball, and I shoot 75 grains in that. If the damage evident in a clay bank is any indication, that load should roll a whitetail into a ball.

Like others, 90 grains in that rifle seems to be a pretty stiff load.
The drop in your poi is significant going from OE to Goex, very surprising. But that is what you got by real shooting so it is noteworth.
Whatever, that is a very good target for 100 yards, especially with open sights.

man you guys are weak! :haha: This is an extremely comfortable gun to shoot and not hard on recoil. Either you are holding the gun wrong or extremely sensitive to recoil.

90gr 3f is the most accurate load i've found with olde eynsford. With goex 3f, its normal load used to be 110 grains.

Well, considering your only 29 years old 90 grns. might not kick to you, but if you look at most us we're all over 50. I myself find 70 grns. of 3fff KIK to be enough. I hope this 2ff Olde Eynsford shoots as good with less recoil. My range was closed today so I didn't get any shooting done.

considering its in the same category as swiss, i think kick is possibly more than goex.

I shoot 110gr goex 2f out of my 58 but after adjusting my shooting table, no trouble. If its not set up right, hoooooweee!
