My latest Woodsrunner in .54 cal. This was advertised as an above grade extra fancy with a small bark inclusion on the other side that’s now invisible. I used iron nitrate as the staining method followed by 8 very thin coats of Kiblers finish and each burnished back with 0000 steel wool and the final coat rubbed out with a clean piece of denim followed by a coat of Renaissance wax. The metal was finished up to an 800gr texture and antiqued with cold blue buffed back with the same grade steel wool and a little white scotch brite here and there.

Jim,

This was an above grade extra fancy with a bark inclusion. The figure that’s been revealed is almost quilted in some areas but wasn’t visible in the raw wood. I’m floored by the results.

Well done! Do you have a closeup pic of the inclusion and how you went about masking it?
Not exactly invisible but I added a bit more iron nitrate in this area. With all the figure this stain in the wood isn’t eye catching at all and really just adds more character to a piece of wood with a lot of it already. Personally, I feel wood with spalting and stains is more appealing visually as the character gives randomness and variation to the figure. I’ll add that in the second video I scrolled right past it and if you’re not looking hard you’ll miss it.
