Here is the latest of my creations, finished last year for my step-father. This is from a parts set supplied by Jack Garner's TVM ( Tennessee Valley Manufacturing ) which is now owned by Randy Heil.

I never took pictures when I finished as the ole man was a bit impatient, they's on vacation and I mentioned I still needed to polish out the lock.

The parts include:

38" swamped & tapered 50 cal Colerain Barrel
Davis dbl set triggers
LH L&R Bailes cap lock thats been case hardened

This rifle shoots like a dream and holds well despite its 6 1/4lb weight.

This is the second of three cap rifles that I have done this way without any issues, just have to take the time to get the lock inlet correctly. If it does miss a bit I have discovered a simple ( to me ) solution to fixing the problem.

Glad you like the rifle, took about a year to complete.

I love how just a touch of engraving on the tang can have impact out of proportion to how much engraving there actually is.

Less is more.

Thanks again for the replys, its a far cry from my first.

Currently working on the wife's from the blank.

The only thing I like more than the art of it all is the historical aspect.

Spose if I didn't have a day job to worry about I could probably do three or so a year, just not ready to turn my hobby/passion into a job. This is rifle #4.

I use Laurel Mtn. Forge stains, sealers, and finishes, I actually have the hardest time with the finish, not a fan of shiney rifles.

As far as the carving its a huge amount of the time for me, no formal training or classes. I probably do it backwards from what the good guys do, I start with a 1mm v tool.

The work on the tang and the double lines at the muzzle were kind of a dry run, the wife wants purty, so I'm thinking silver wire inlay.

I am lefty as well

I'll post up some pics of the rifle I did while fulfilling my 1 rifle apprenticeship. It is crude to say the least, but its accurate and I'll never get rid of it.
