Congratulations on your steal of a deal! First off, I would not go down on your patch thickness but try a .530 ball with the same patching or increase to .020 if you can find it and it's not too difficult to load. I would also start with 55 grains of 2f and work your way up until you find what your rifle likes and is most accurate. Shoot three shot groups, stabbing between shots, the increase the powder charge by 5 grains. My .54 has an Investarms barrel with a 1:48 twist rate and with an 85 grain charge of 2f Goex it will shoot one ragged hole at 75 yards, which is my self imposed limit.AStealthyMango said:Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but I got to shoot it for the first time the other day. It was fantastic, had a little trouble with ignition though. The nipple was a bit too large to allow the cap to seat properly, but we filed it down and eventually got it working regularly for the most part. I loved it. I shot .535 round ball with a .018 patch and 70 or 80 grains of pyrodex, probably going to downsize the patch next time though. All in all it was quite lovely.
