I recently purchased a 54 cal. investarms hawken, you know anyone that can install similar sight setup globe front and vernier peep rear? I' have shot high power for many years and prefer these type of sights just don't know of anyone that installs them on percussion rifles.

So, after ten years of gathering dust you have finally fashioned the rifle you should have been shooting all along! :) that 1:30 seems a bit slow though.

Pay attention... he's putting it together to ship to Texas!!!
😁

Actually, that would be like pulling a horse trailer with a Maserati. My hunting is in thick post oak, my long shot is 90 yards.

It only took me about an hour to install these sights. Getting the drill press out of storage took the most time.

Very nice work for sure. I may try to install a set but would hate to tear up a nice new rifle as my gunsmithing skills are not quite up to par. The Shavers sights look top notch for sure.

I have a Hawken that is set up the same. I have been using for l those years. So this is a second one.

I think the 45 is an ideal bullet gun and have though about doing a drop in for my Tc. Maybe with a Rice barrel. Buuuut, still not legal for elk in Colorado. :(

it's really easy to drill and tap. I lay a piece of tape in the center of the tang. Then I put the rear screw through the sight and hold the sight on top of the tang. Then I use a pen mark tge spot for the hole. Use a center punch to get the spot ready to drill.

Do you know if any of the lyman rear peeps would fit an investarms/cabelas hawken? Also a front globe that would fit?

This tang was a Cabelas tang.

The tape is lined up in the center and a punch was used to start.

Sometimes the stock will interfere so you have to adjust the sight a bit. Some guys just grind off the wood. I take off the metal off the sight.

Excellent pics, they should really help me with install!

:thumb:

I used a angle grinder to remove the aluminum. A guy has to be really careful.
I have also used a spacer under the sight to raise the sight to get it off the stock.
You can see the silver spacer under the sight. The TC in this case didn't need to be altered, I added the spacer for more distance.

Ok, you win, i had enough, i was going to sell my T.C Renegade 54. 🤨And because of you i have this bad itch. So now I’m looking for the good sights for the rifle , it will be used for 200 yards for now. Hunting situation and plinking. All pure lead bullets. I know i have to mike the barrel to figure the mold that i will need.
So a good shopping list would help me out:ghostly:

somewhere in my basement i have a .54 perc barrel for my T/C renegade ... there's a T/C long range sight ... i'm thinking i should spring for a nice front sight and go bang some gongs at a zillion yards..

i was gonna waste that money on something stupid like groceries or car payments ... nope - you have to keep your priorities straight!
