So I recently scored about 50 lb of lead at a yard sale including about roughly 1500 of these projectiles.
They appear to be cast lead bullet with several grease rings. Total length is 15 mm and the diameter is 9 mm
I'm thinking I might be able to use these in my 1863 pocket model. So far I use the round lead ball that shaves off a perfect ring and I believe the round lead ball is 323 diameter which is just a hair under 8 mm or maybe that's the chamber size. I believe the round lead ball measures right at 8 mm.
So I'm wondering if I can get a piece of steel plate that is thick enough and drill out an 8 mm hole and Hammer the bullets through it making an improvised sizing die.
And also appears I would need to take some of the length off of the projectile by taking a chisel and chunking off a piece in the same plate.
Maybe taking them down to 10 mm in length?
Sure would be a shame to not find a use for them. Does anyone know what these might have been originally used for? Our friends deceased father had them. He was a reloader. Possibly 9 mm cartridges or a rifle round of some sort?
