Can anyone identify this old double-set trigger?

Hey, Spence, how old is that trigger? Are we talking about an older modern made or something from the 18th or 19th century?

I'd like to see more pics from the top and side that show the mechanism. Particularly what is apparently the front trigger return spring on the front end! Any chance of more pics! :) :)

I think that came from MSM (Mountain State Muzzleloading) which is now Cain's Outdoors in WV.

Modern but old, from the late 1970s.

If these pictures don't show what you want, let me know, I'll make some which do.

The trigger set:

Just what I wanted to see. Can't even guess at who made it but it's a nice looking trigger. That front spring might get in the way of the tang bolt. :shocked2:

Wow! beefy trigger!
I've seen that stamp before, but after a couple days, still can't remember where. :idunno:

Spence,
No mystery there. That is one of the famous "North Star Triggers" made by Curly Gostomski in the early days of North Star Enterprises. According to his biography he supposedly started making them as early as 1965 ( kinda doubt that) The star cartouche is North Star's. He sold the patterns and molds to Mountain States Muzzleloading before he died. They are suspiciously just like the Davis triggers. I have a set of them that I hope to incorporate into a gun someday. Loose ones with the cartouche like you have are fairly rare, most of them having been built into something by now.

Thanks to everyone for their input. MSM it is, without a doubt, and I appreciate the info.

This is a proud day, for me. Three people agreed on the answer, with nary a harsh word spoken. Must be a first. Claude, you awake?

Yes, very similar to the Davis DST trigger, but IMHO, lacking the Davis quality. The MSM trigger sold for about $10. less than the Davis & other triggers. I have had several of them, last one about 10 years ago. No comparison in quality of that trigger to a Davis when you put them side by side. IMHO.

Spence... hate to shoot ya in the foot, but this was all going way too smooth.
