That's sure one heck of a run of bad luck for none of your TC barrels to be accurate... :shocking: ::
Well, once again, what is accurate. This is very subjective unless we agree on some guidelines. Is 2" groups with .50 p.r.b. good accuracy with open sights? I'd say it was, but what if the accuracy is with 40 grains of powder. Hardly a .50 hunting load.
Now if my T/C original barrels would shoot 2" groups at 50 yards with 80 or 90 grains of gee-whiz, then I'd call it accurate AND usefull.
My Lyman Deerstalker will shoot p/r/b into one ragged hole for 5 shots at 25 yards with 50 grains of powder from it's 1:48" twist, but I don't consider that a useful whitetail load.
It will also group under 3" at 100 yards with about any saboted bullet or conical and 100 grains of gee-whiz. Both accurate and powerful enough for larger game.
No T/C 1:48 twist barrel that I have owned in either .50 or .54 would ever do better than 5", often worse, at 100 yards with ANY combination of p/r/b or bullet, WITH HUNTING CHARGES OF POWDER, 80 or more grains of poop!
I saw a fellow with a real purdy T/C Hawken set up with hooded front sight and target rear peeps. He could one hole group the thing at 50 yards all day long with the stock 1:48" twist, BUT with 45 grains of fuel. Anything over that and groups went south in a hurry.
Sure the CAN shoot nice groups, but with what powder charge.
I've seen people claim great accuracy with a variety of weapons if they could hit a pie plate at 50 yards in the local strip pit.
Any of you guys have a tack driving T/C 1:48" twist? Then what are the EXACT loads, at what Distance? and what are the measured REPEATABLE groups?
Debate anyone?
