Naked ball and lubed wad arrangement?

I have been having fun shooting a bare .562 ball over a home made lubed Durafelt wad in my .56 smoothbore Renegade. The ball goes down with very little encouragement (and stays down) and shoots pretty good groups. A couple of weeks back I picked up a .62 mold I thought might work similarly in my Pedersoli Trade Gun. This gun has a bore that measures .630 and I have been shooting it with .610 (actually measuring closer to .606) balls wrapped in .018 spit-lubed muzzle-cut patches to good effect. I cast up a bunch of balls out of the .620 mold and they measure .624ish and drop in the bore slowly “whistling” all the way down, but will fall right back out too. So, I was thinking of putting a lubed patch over the bare ball in the Trade Rifle. I could of course put a lubed wad under the ball and a piece of TOW or card over the ball, but one lubed wad over would be easier. Lotta ways to skin a cat, what say you?

I use alot of things powder wad ball and leaves picked up off the ground is one way but I mostly use powder tow bare ball and tow with some olive oil to top the ball works for me.

Powder+12 oz skirting-leather wad+roundball+very thin cardboard wad.. This combination will shoot right beside a patched roundball all day long from my smoothie.

Tow in a ball can be started and a ball could be pushed in nesting in the tow. Shoots almost as small as patched

Exactly. For bare ball loads I seat the ball on a lubed wad (felt, leather, fiber wab) with a card wad over the ball. I seat them together as one unit and not just one after the other. At .50 yards groups are under 3". Prb shoot a little better than bare but the difference in accuracy is relatively minor. Either will be 100% effective.

I shot my new Pedersoli trade gun today. Tried patched ball over 80gr 3F, shot pretty good. I decided to experiment with corn meal, and believe it or not it shot a tighter group at 50, maybe 3-4” with no rear sight. 80gr 3F, same amount of corn meal, bare .600 rib, and thin wad. Boy was I surprised!

Lubed wad under amd thin card over. Or lubed tow wad above and below. Too much sign of blow by, one can use the historically referenced 2x1" piece of paper folded to 1x1" and placed between powder and tow.

I never understood this stand on your hind feet and shoot like a man thingy.
I almost always use a rest, bench, cross sticks, Moses stick, tree, knee, something.

I have had good results in my 58 kibler smoothbore with over powder thin card bare. 562 ball and a 1/2" lubed felt wad.

Reason I ask, @tenngun is because the club where I shoot all our matches are shot standing, the exception being the 100 yd. rifle target. On that one, any hold is allowed.

You have to follow tge rules to play the game, and even with my feelings I’ve shot a match or two and a woods walk when I can
